This was the first series of short films watched this semester. 11 filmmakers created 11 short films, each lasting 11 minutes. The films depicted the events of September 11th, 2001 various locations around the world, showing that the world was effected by the disaster, not just the US. Of the films, the most interesting, to me, was the final film on the DVD, created by Sean Penn. The film tells the story of an elderly man living in New York, in a dark apartment in the shadows of the World Trade Center. For most of the movie, the man does not accept that his wife has passed away, until the towers fall and light shines into his apartment, bringing life to his plants that had wilted in the dark. At this point, he goes to show his wife, and realizes that he has been living in denial. It seemed to me, that the event, for this man, gave him clarity.
