The Lonely Villa

21 Feb

Created in 1909, The Lonely Villa is yet another DW Griffith Creation. Like many other short films, this one focuses on the idea of crime and robbery. A gang gets a man to leave his home, and they proceed to rob his wife and children. They, however, lock themselves in a room in hopes to stay safe. When the man realizes what is happening, it is a race to get to the thieves before they get inside the locked room. Despite being a mere 8 minutes, the story is filled with suspense throughout. The film seemed to be the original ‘Panic Room,’ a 2002 feature with an incredibly similar story. This only proves that Griffith’s storytelling abilities would still be viable in the modern day.
